Yahoo! has just released its answer to Google’s Deskbar. They’ve approached the problem a little differently. Instead of simply offering a static search box (which operates identically to any other search box on Y! and opens up in a toaster-like MS-HTML window– ala Google Deskbar), they have seen this as an opportunity to serve up My Yahoo! content (read: RSS feeds) in a non-obtrusive form factor [IMHO].
Those of you taking The Yahoo! Challenge, look at this as an opportunity to fortify your Yahoo! Toolbar. It’s another step toward Yahoo! ubiquity.
Now, get something in Safari, dammit!

This isn’t the same as the Google Deskbar. I just want a search box, don’t want to see content scrolling by.

It is not similar to Google Deskbar in the fact that GD does not offer scrolling personalized content.
It is the same as Google Deskbar in the sense that Yahoo! Ticker has a (default) state where it’s just a search box.

I just tried to load the Yahoo! Toolbar twice. Both times it gave me a message that says it has been successfully loaded. However, I cannot see it. I even restarted, to see if that would work.

Richt-click on your taskbar and select “Toolbars” then the Y! toolbar. It’s there, you just need to follow the instructions…
