I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time, but I finally got off my ass and started a podcast. You may be wondering what the hell a podcast is. I’ll try using as few words as possible to describe the concept, so as not to bore people who don’t care…which is just about everyone.
- I record something. (it bears noting that I didn’t say something interesting)
- I put the file somewhere on the web
- I create a feed.
- You copy and paste that feed into your favorite media player
- The media player automatically downloads your daily (weekly…monthly…um..err..annual) dish of audible lantzillian goodness.
- You listen and yawn at my boring content.
- If equipped, you can sync your mp3 player with your media player to take your lantzilla dish anywhere you go.
But enough of this text crap, listen for yourself!

Recording and driving eh? :-)It almost seems criminal.
Some cool things about podcasting:
1. Similar to what you had mentioned, you have a distinct and pre-described audience that you can broadcast to (aka the readers of your blog). It’s an interesting extension and continuation of the community that you had started on your blog.
2. Now I can catch up with your ideas without reading your blog. I can do two things at once. Audio can be at times a background thing…
no longer do I have to be glued to a blog post, but I can be washing the dishes and also catching up with my friends.(not that I’m suggesting we shouldn’t listen to Lance wholeheartedly :-))
3. You are right, if podcasting is another form of citizen journalism, then feeds is an answer. Now the question is “If a tree falls in the forest and it wasn’t on your feed, did it really happen?”…*sigh* that’s probably another post for another time.
Thanks for posting this one…it was a nice intro to ease into it

Nice podcast Lance — I listened to the whole thing! (You had me from the point you namechecked me. And props to R. Fulcher was the clincher.) It’ll become my thrice-weekly dose of ego-boo. Mention me often.

So I’ve been getting bugged for a while about getting a Podcast going for those of my lame fans and friends that want to hear me put together some of my more obscure and rare music put in the mix on a feed to listen to while working and what not. So this is GREAT! I know who to bug when I need HELP!!! Talk to ya soon.
Your distant family member/former mac genius/too much time on his hands friend,
Richie
