I knew that Netscape was going to have something drastic to stay get back in the game, and they have. It’s a blatant ripoff of Digg. Since Digg is so specifically focused on technology, perhaps Netscape intends to generalize the model to a larger audience. It’s ballsy and will be interesting to see where it goes. In fact, they’ve completely de-coupled their name space, and is no longer using Screen Name Service to authenticate. I just wonder if it’s too late for them. Thanks for the heads up, Bryce, and I hope all of your Columbus comrades have suitable career opportunities lined up.

Well, so far the public opinion doesn’t seem favorable..

I suspect they’ll see a temporary run on registrations to the site, as people bemusedly create accounts in order to register their negative feedback.. (Not that think they’ve built a terrible site or anything, but they’ll definitely lose the “where’re my headlines and cute jokes?” crowd (which is a significant number of those 10-million-a-month pageviews that Calacanis is excited about.

(I actually registered, and the password doesn’t work. I reset it three times, and still no worky. I suppose I’ll try a fourth. In any case, it doesn’t bode will for the N.
